Alxedo: The lessons we learned through the years.

At Alxedo, we started 3 years ago with a dream to bring pure and drinkable water to more people without putting our planet at risk. It all came about because the founders experienced firsthand what it was like to drink contaminated water, on the one hand, and what thousands of bottles were doing to the planet, on the other.

But what is happening with the bottles?

  • The consumption of bottled water affects our health, the environment, and our pockets.
  • Every month, 40 billion bottles are produced, 75% of which are not recycled.
  • Each person consumes an average of 325 microplastic particles for every liter bottled.
  • 87.5% of the bottles contain bacteria within a few days of use.
  • Bottled water can be up to 1,000 times more expensive than tap water.

And so it was that an idea was born that would become a project that, in addition to changing people’s lives, would change life’s planet, starting with Mexico.

It all started with the water purifier, which brings the freshest and purest water to people in Mexico.

But where to start?

It was one of the first questions our founders asked themselves, the product and the passion for transforming people’s lives were already there, but how would they reach them. That would require marketing, sales, administration, and all the departments that a company should have.

Although, in theory, all the elements were in place to start Alxedo, it was time to employ a strategy.

B2B Strategy

One of the first approaches to the audience was B2B, and Alxedo hired a sales force to cover this market, dividing it into:

  • Restaurants
  • Real estate
  • Hotels
  • Offices
  • Government Institutions

The idea was to open the doors of each one of them, but what we faced was that these companies didn’’t feel operationally ready for a big transformation from bottled water to purified water.

However, we have success cases in Saks Restaurants, Presidente InterContinental, W Hotel, and sports institutions, such as Club Casa Blanca, which tested the quality of our water and loved its purity.

After our success cases, we knew that if we approached more people directly, we would have better results. But what to do?

A good market research led us to determine something that we already knew at this point, the need to open the first physical Alxedo Stores.

We had to determine strategic points to reach more people, so we decided that Centro Comercial Santa Fe and Paseo Interlomas would be the first stores to open, and with that, a new stage for Alxedo began.

We would like to tell you that it was super simple, but the reality is that it required a learning curve, flyers, canvases for the stores, patience, and a sales team that would stay with the customers so that they could taste our ALX1 water.

After the opening of the stores, a new product arrived, ALXfizz, the water gasifier, with this product, Alxedo’s sales increased, and it became one of our best-selling products.

And soon we will be opening more stores in Acapulco, Cancún, Puebla, and Querétaro.

Growing with E-commerce

Along with the stores, we wanted to continue to scale and reach more people, so we thought that the next step would be e-commerce; and, so it was, as through online advertising, we have been able to reach more customers both in Mexico City and the Metropolitan area, as well as other areas of Mexico.

Without a doubt, the change of strategies has been a learning experience for our founders, Kai and Sam, but also for all of us who work at Alxedo, and the most important thing is to realize how much we have grown, and how we will continue to do so to bring the best quality water to your home, whether you prefer it natural, sparkling or both.
